Prof. Mabassa Fall is the FIDH Permanent Representative to the African Union. A Professor of Political Science at the Cheikh Anta Diop University for many years, he has been engaged for the defense of human rights as Secretary General of the National Organisation for Human Rights (ONDH) since its creation. He was a member of the International Commission Jurists (ICJ) before joining FIDH in the 90s as its Representative to the African Commission on Human Rights and Peoples and the African Union. Prof. Fall is also a founding member of the Inter-African Union for Human Rights (UIDH) and the African Centre for Conflict Prevention (CAPREC).
Prof. Mabassa Fall contributes to many regional reflections through his participation in various events organised by the AU organs. At the level of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR), in with FIDH holds observer status, Prof. Mabassa Fall initiated Resolution 79 which established the Working Group on death penalty at the 38th Ordinary Session of the Commission. Since then, Mr. Fall follows the work of the Working Group and contributes to its discussion conducted within the framework of the study on the issue of the death penalty in Africa released in April 2012.
